Flew on UN858, green plane:

Flew on UM996, practically the only flight I observe to use this airway

2007/08/03

Flew on UM870, very rare, Arkia flies to Stockholm only 1x per week and only in summer season. There is something written on the belly, but I can't read it off, too little zoom

Asdrius J'm fond of B747 Air Bridge Cargo since I've seen him 8 days ago first time in life. Last day during stay at the Baltic seaside and 50 minutes before return to home that plane made surprise 10 days still waiting for plane has brought profit.

Hello,

My trip to Wales was very successful for contrailspotting, nearly everyday had clear skies and there were plenty of contrails. I stayed near the Brecon VOR (BCN) which surrounds airways UL9, UN14, UN38, UN864, UL180, and UN862.

Here is an airspace map of the location, as you can see the skies were a lot busier on holiday than at home!:

The Galaxy kicks some ass really hard!!! One of the best RNAV pictures i ever saw. IMHO with great potential on airliners or jetphotos - with proper postprocessing.

ContrailsUK - now I see what heat radiation can do For me it's not a big problem yet, my equipment is not powerful enough for radiation to make a difference

Made some shots on wednesday evening. On other days weather was also clear, but no contrails on planes

2007/08/15

Another summer highlight for me - Astraeus 757. Rare 1x weekly flight , late in the evening, only on summer visible in daylight. I have been trying to catch it whole summer

Hi Asdrius,

I also saw an Aeroflot yesterday for the first time
It was AFL317 UUEE-KIAD but did not get a photo

For the last couple of days there had been some very unusual traffic over England due to change in the North Atlantic Tracks, flights which I normally see are routing more North than they usually do.

ContrailsUK but it's nice thing that espacially long range flight routing is not constant, they always change. Keeps contrail spotting not so boring.

For me when winds at high altitude are favorouble I see lot of eastbound long-range flights from europe to asia, but when winds change all eastbound flights dissappear, but westbound flights returning from Asia appear. So I never lose, I always get either eastbound or westbound long range traffic above me Of course I would like to have both at the same time.
I guess it is similar situation for you with north atlantic long range traffic.

Yes, it is a similar situation for me, at the moment I have a lot of westbound traffic on the Southside airway (UN20), and little amount of eastbound traffic. Westbound traffic is not as good for me as aircraft fly in front of the sun at this time of year, so I rarely taken pictures. Eastbound traffic routing via the northside airway (UM140) makes better pictures with the sun shining on them.

I also experimented yesterday with low altitude traffic. Airplanes, arriving to Vilnius Intl. from southwest being vectored to intercept ILS rw20 glideslope, pass above me around 2500-3000ft altitude:

CSA872, also B737-500 from Prague:


LOT771, an ERJ170 from Warsaw:


LIL471, and another B737-500 from Paris:


Overall it was very difficult to capture them, they move so fast over me, when at low altitude. I guess I'll have to keep picturing high altitude traffic.
